Airway Centered Dentistry

Helping Little Ones Breathe, Sleep, and Blossom
At Breathe and Blossom Pediatric Dentistry, we believe that healthy breathing is the foundation of your child’s growth, development, and overall well-being. Airway centered dentistry focuses on more than just teeth—it looks at how your child breathes, sleeps, and functions every day.

What Is Airway Centered Dentistry?

Airway centered dentistry is a modern, holistic approach to pediatric care that looks beyond cavities and smiles. It focuses on:

  • How your child breathes (nose vs. mouth)

  • How the jaws, tongue, and face are developing

  • Sleep quality and behavioral concerns

  • Early signs of tethered oral tissues (like tongue ties)

By evaluating the structure and function of your child’s airway, we can identify and address potential problems before they become long-term health issues.

Is Airway Dentistry Right for My Child?

You might not know your child is struggling with airway issues. Common signs include:

During the Day:

  • Mouth breathing

  • Snoring or noisy breathing

  • Dark under-eye circles

  • Hyperactivity or attention issues

  • Difficulty focusing in school

At Night:

  • Restless sleep or frequent waking

  • Bedwetting past age 5

  • Grinding teeth (bruxism)

  • Snoring or gasping for air

  • Heavy breathing or pauses during sleep

In Growth & Development:

  • Narrow jaws or crowded teeth

  • Tongue tie or lip tie

  • Delayed speech or feeding difficulties

  • Picky eating or gagging

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, an airway evaluation could be the missing piece.

What Happens at an Airway Evaluation?

During your child’s airway consultation, we will:

  • Take a complete health and developmental history

  • Examine facial growth, jaw alignment, tongue posture, and breathing habits

  • Screen for tethered oral tissues (tongue, lip, or buccal ties)

  • Discuss sleep patterns and behavior

  • Use advanced imaging or refer to specialists if needed
